The gaming industry says the economy is bad, so fewer people are gambling and the state's schools could be the losers.

Missouri schools could face a $24 million funding shortfall because tax revenues from casinos are falling short of projections.

Casinos had been expected to produce about $372 million for education this year, but new estimates says those casinos will generate only $348 million.

Budget planners hoped a 2008 ballot measure removing gamblers' loss limits would result in more revenues, but a slow economy has people gambling less.
