Update: December 22 at 5:45 p.m.:

Boone County deputies say they are investigating an assault victim’s death as a homicide.

Aletha Turner, 67, died Wednesday afternoon at University Hospital.

Deputies say she was attacked in her Columbia home earlier this week. Deputies aren’t saying what was used in the attack or how long they believe Turner was suffering before relatives discovered her.

An autopsy is scheduled.

Turner lived alone on Dewey Lane in the Lake of the Woods area of west Columbia.

The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad is investigating Turner’s death. About 20 officers are following leads in the case.

Boone County deputies are looking for a man who assaulted a woman. .

Friends and relatives found the 67 year old laying unconscious inside her home about 8:30 am Monday morning.

She lived alone in the Lake of the Woods area, east of Columbia.

No word on the woman's condition, but authorities say her injuries were serious.

Officers from the Mid-Missouri Major case squad have been called in to follow leads and to create a  timeline for when the attack happened.

Detective Tom O'Sulllivan says they also need to determine if anything was taken from the home.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the woman's attacker.
