ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The widow of a St. Louis man said her husband was shot to death while shielding his stepdaughter from the gunfire.
Dannie Williams, 47, of University City was killed early Monday in the backyard of his stepdaughter's home in St. Louis.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Williams had gone to the home after his daughter called him, complaining that a jealous acquaintance had broken into her home and assaulted her.
Cynthia Williams said her husband was talking to the stepdaughter and her new boyfriend when someone opened fire after stepping from the bushes. Williams was shot three times in the back after pushing the stepdaughter to safety in the house.
Police said they're looking for an identified suspect.
