COLE COUNTY, MO -- A man who used to drive a school bus for the Jefferson City School District is charged with first degree statutory sodomy.

William Vaught, is being held on at the Cole County jail with a $150,000 bond.

Vaught accused of committing the felony sometime between May 1, 2008 and Nov. 30, 2008. The incident involved a child younger than 12 years old.

A corporate spokeswoman at First Student said that Vaught was a school bus driver during that time. First Student has since suspended him.

Vaught worked from 2000-2004 and returned to work from September 2007 through 2010.

First Student suspended Vaught immediately after police arrested him, which was on Aug. 16,  a day before school went back into session.

School district spokesman David Luther said Vaught did not drive for the district during the current 2010-2011 school year.

In the Grand Jury Indictment from Cole County, there is no information about the victim, except for the fact that he or she is younger than 12 years old. So far, there are no details about how Vaught knew the alleged victim.

First Student said Vaught passed all background checks before it employed him and throughout his time as a school bus driver. The First Student spokeswoman also said Vaught was in good standing with the company before suspending him.
