JEFFERSON CITY (AP) -- The Cole County prosecutor says in court documents that he intends to seek the death penalty against a man accused of a double murder in Jefferson City.

The Jefferson City News Tribune reports that the suspect, 54-year-old David Hosier of Jefferson City, was told of the decision Wednesday during a status hearing.

Hosier faces two counts of first-degree murder and other charges in the Sept. 28, 2009, shooting deaths of Angela and Rodney Gilpin. Hosier was arrested in Oklahoma seven hours after the slayings.

Hosier has pleaded not guilty.

The Gilpins' bodies were found in Angela Gilpin's Jefferson City apartment, a block from Hosier's home. Investigators say Angela Gilpin had a romantic relationship with Hosier while separated from her husband, but the Gilpins were trying to reconcile.
