President Barack Obama is set to make his first campaign appearance on behalf of Missouri Democratic senatorial candidate Robin Carnahan.

Obama is scheduled to attend a pair of Carnahan fundraisers Thursday in Kansas City.

Carnahan's campaign expects more than 250 people to attend a luncheon with Obama, where tickets range from $1,000 to $30,000. The campaign expects more than 750 people at a separate Obama reception, with tickets ranging from $17 to $99.

Carnahan is the leading Democrat in this year's race to replace Republican Kit Bond, who is retiring after 24 years in the Senate.

Congressman Roy Blunt is the Republican front-runner in the race. Blunt planned to campaign Thursday in southern Missouri.
