Trial date set for suspect in family rape case

LEXINGTON, Mo. (AP) -- A January trial date has been set for a Columbia man accused of molesting young family members more than two decades ago.

Jared Mohler is scheduled for trial Jan. 31, 2011, in Lafayette County Circuit Court. The 49-year-old is charged with three counts of rape, one count of sodomy and three counts of using a child in a sexual performance.

He and his brother, 54-year-old Burrell Mohler Jr., appeared in court Monday. Jared Mohler is free on bond, while Burrell Mohler Jr. remains in custody.

Burrell Mohler Jr. will appear in court again July 6 to set a trial date on three counts of rape, three counts of using a child in a sexual performance and one count of deviate sexual assault.

The men's father, their uncle and two brothers also are facing rape and other charges in the case.
