BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Fire broke out just after 9 a.m. Wednesday at a Boone County duplex.

Fortunately, no one is living in that side of the building on Southview Court.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire, but a spokesman for the Boone County Fire Department calls the incident "suspicious".

Boone County fire officials said crews first on the scene could see smoke coming from the second floor of the duplex.

"Initial crew through the door found a bit of fire in the living room down on the first floor," Asst. Chief Doug Westhoff said. "Other than that, no active fire. It appeared it had burned long enough that the concentration of heat and smoke had moved to the second floor."

Smoke damage to the neighboring unit was so extensive, it rendered the place uninhabitable.

Its resident was shaken up and required medical attention.

She will receive help from the Red Cross in finding a new place to live.

If you have any information on this fire, call (573) 875-TIPS, or go to www.875TIPS.com.
