CALLAWAY COUNTY -- The National Weather Service says three tornados did touch down in mid-Missouri last week.
Strong winds Wednesday night tore the roof off one of the buildings near the ball fields at the South Callaway High School in Mokana.
Parts of a fence were also broken and two dugouts were blown away.
"I heard about it before i got here but it was still, to actually see it, it was pretty much of a shock," said grounds director Keith White.
The National Weather Service says the tornado hit at 10:36 p.m. it initially hit the west side of the football stadium damaging the stands. Damage intensity was rated.
At least six trees were also destroyed in the storm.
Administrators are still waiting for insurance adjusters to come up with a figure on the damage.
Ironically that night, school administrators were meeting in the school's tornado shelter.
Two other tornadoes hit a few minutes earlier.
The first, less than a mile west of Westphalia, moved north-northeast direction across the Maries River damaging mainly trees.
The next twister hit one mile south of the intersection of Highway PP and County Road 474, knocking down trees and damaging a small farm building.
