COLUMBIA, MO. -- Columbia police are looking for the person or persons who tried to rob the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Walnut Street.

Sometime between 2 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, someone used a brick to try and break the front glass window of the store.

The suspects hit the window several times with a brick, but the thickness of the glass held up to the pressure of the blows.

Salvation Army officials said they would rather spend money from their tight budget on needy families than on window repair bills.

Investigators have very few leads.

“There is a lot of traffic through here," Thrift Store Manager Robert Wells said. "There are a lot of walkers. I would encourage anyone who saw anything, or perhaps heard someone talking about it, to either contact the police or contact the Salvation Army Church because we are a church.”

If you have any information about this attempted robbery, police urge you to call Columbia Crimestoppers at 875-TIPS.
