JEFFERSON CITY -- Two mid-Missouri schools are hoping you can help them win $100,000 and one took their campaign to the streets Sunday for some help from the community.

The St. Francis Xavier School in Taos and Concord Christian School in Jefferson City are involved in an online contest sponsored by U.S. Cellular.

Several students from St. Francis Xavier, armed with signs, stood on Missouri Blvd trying to get drivers to come in and vote. The contest is called "Calling all Communities."

Ten schools from across the country with the most online votes will be awarded the $100,000 prize to use for their school.

St. Francis Xavier is currently in 60th place and hoping extra votes can push them into the top 10.

"We've been working really hard on this project,” said parent Amy Juergensmeyer, a parent. “It's been a great community building project for our school and determination has been contagious and that's what's kept us in this race."

Around 180 kids go to the private school. Parents say the money would go a long way in helping with some upgrades around the building and for educational needs.

"Our gym floor is in dire need,” said another parent Tammy Sachse. “The older kids play basketball and in a couple years they wouldn't be able to unless we had got the floor refinished."

You can help the school by going to the U.S. Cellular store on Missouri Blvd. and getting a card from a representative. Then you can head online and vote.

Voting ends Friday, January 15.
