JEFFERSON CITY -- Christmas has officially arrived at the Governor’s Mansion.

Early this morning one of the two trees for the mansion arrived. The tree is a 16-foot white pine from Armstrong, Mo. The tree now stands at the bottom of the grand staircase on the first floor of the mansion.

Throughout the week mansion staff will be decorating the tree to provide free entertainment later this week.

"Governor and Mrs. Nixon look forward to welcoming Missourians from all across the state here to the mansion,” said Sam Murphy. On Friday and Saturday the candlelight tours are free and open to the the public. So Nixon’s press secretary Sam Murphy. “It's a great opportunity to bring the family up, bring the kids and celebrate out holiday traditions in a really cost effective way."

Several musical guests are expected at the mansion later this week.

Next week KRCG will look into how the cooler and rainer summer and fall month affected the Christmas tree crops and how that may affect your wallet.
