Shoppers spend $10.5B, up slightly from last year

JEFFERSON CITY -- Black Friday shopping results are in and they're not as good as expected.

Shoppers spent only slightly more this Black Friday than they did last year, according to a research firm.

Preliminary sales data indicate shoppers spent more than $10.5 billion when they hit the stores the day after Thanksgiving.

Even though sales are only up slightly from last year - one of the worst retail shopping seasons in decades - research shows the average amount online shoppers spent on Black Friday rose by 35 percent.
