Many people will be hitting the roads today to get to their holiday destination, but mid-Missouri law enforcement wants you to know they will be out enforcing traffic laws.

The Missouri Highway Patrol will participate in operation C.A.R.E Combined Accident Reduction Effort- over the holiday weekend.

A higher number than usual of officers will be assigned to Missouri's roadways to enforce laws, especially related to drunk driving, speeding, and seat belt use. The counting period for the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday weekend starts tonight at 6 p.m. until midnight Sunday.

The Columbia Police Department has said they will watch Interstate 70 especially close for traffic violations today.

If you need help on the roadways anywhere in Missouri, call the highway patrol's emergency assistance number 1-800-525-5555 or *55 .
