CALLAWAY COUNTY -- Update Wednesday 3:30 a.m.:

The man shot by a Callaway County deputy Tuesday night has died.

The Callaway County Sheriff says the 33 year-old man died at a local hospital.

The deputy who shot him is on paid administrative leave while the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigates.

Sheriff Dennis Crane says it started when an emergency call came in to dispatch around 8 p.m. from a Colorado man who thought his brother might commit suicide.

The responding deputy saw the suicidal man through a window in the home on Mallard Lane, he then came to the door with a handgun. Crane says there was an exchange of shots and the man was hit.

Both the deceased man and the deputy's names are being withheld.
