COLUMBIA -- A jury has convicted 25-year-old Damon Williams of first degree murder.
Williams was convicted in the Columbia shooting death Nate Bentley, 22, in the summer of 2008. He was also convicted of armed criminal action and first degree robbery.
After the verdict was read a member of Bentley's family started moving towards Williams and a verbal altercation followed, ending with the arrest of William's mother and a man who was identified as one of the victim's relatives.
The prosecution did not seek the death penalty so Williams will spend life in prison.
Williams pled guilty to the crime in July of last year but a judge then allowed Williams to withdraw his guilty plea so he could go to trial.
Witness testimony revealed the details surrounding the home invasion on Pimlico Drive.
Prosecutors said five men spent June 10, 2008 smoking marijuana, and that they planned the home invasion once they ran out of drugs.
The other suspects made plea bargains in exchange for their testimony against Williams.
