There is a new phone scam targeting Boone County residents.

Someone is calling residents claiming that they are collecting money for the sheriff's department.

The caller said the money will pay for deputies to Christmas shop for needy children.

The sheriff's department said it is not conducting any sort of telephone fundraising and remind residents to never provide personal or bank information over the phone without verifying who it is.
