CALLAWAY COUNTY -- Two people from Holts Summit have died in an early Saturday morning car accident in southern Callaway County.

Christina Smith, 25, was headed northbound on Highway 54 and lost control of her car as she tried to exit onto Missouri 94. The vehicle went off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail and overturned.

Both Smith and her passenger Simon Sanchez, 21, were thrown from the car and died from their injuries.

Neither were wearing seatbelts.

The crash is being investigated by the Jefferson City Police Department. Blood samples were requested by investigators on the scene.

My heart & prayers go out to the families of these young people. My daughter also lost her life due to not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Seat belts DO save lives!!
