FULTON -- A Fulton school bus driver is charged with assault after an incident last week involving a McIntire Elementary School student.

Steven Adams faces a third-degree assault charge. Adams posted bond after his arrest.

Fulton School District spokesperson Kathy Wright said last Wednesday Adams elbowed a child on the school bus.

The sheriff said the school reported the incident and assisted with the investigation.

The child received no serious injuries.

Adams is currently on suspension and not driving a school bus.

Understanding

Please keep in mind to the individual who posted previously, that bus drivers and educators have a choice to put themselves in that position. The children, whether they have issues or not, need to be protected - they have no choice in being there. They may have issues at home that are not addressed, or they have mental disabilities that are likewise not addressed, or they could just be rotten children.

If they are trouble makers, they've made the adults in charge of their care notice this problem before. In that case the adults should keep in mind the personality of that child when interacting. There is no excuse for physically touching someone elses child in a rough or abusive way.

Even if they are a normal child, adults need to remember that these are children who are made to attend school and as the adults in the situation, they have a choice to not work around the students if they can't control themselves.

On a side note, the case where the bus driver being fired for breaking up a fight is completely different than the above mentioned story.

Child Safety??

I am a teacher and I 110% believe in child safety! However, I also have seen kids/young adults push teachers and in many cases bus drivers to the max. There is a fine line between child safety (protecting the student from injury and negligence) and what is right out giving the child the authority to do what they want.

I know of a recent incident of a bus driver pulling a kid off and pushing him away from a student that was being beat up and he lost his job because he "pushed him away". What are we telling the kids?

Go ahead and cause problems...YOU won't get punished! I do not know the FULL details of this story, but things NEED to change where the teacher and those in positions with students have the authority back in the classroom and on the bus, or we are going to continue to have problems such as bullying, disrespect, shootings etc.
