MONITEAU COUNTY -- A Jefferson City man is dead after he crashed into a telephone pole in Moniteau County early Saturday morning.

The accident happened where Route O meets Potato Chip Road just before 1:30 a.m.

The Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Dane McGuire ran off the right side of the road, hit the telephone pole, and was ejected from the vehicle as the car overturned.

McGuire was flown to University Hospital in Columbia and was pronounced dead there.

Troopers say he was not wearing his seat belt.
