COLUMBIA -- The controversial anti-gay group, Westbrook Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, will be protesting in Columbia today.

The group will demonstrate at Hickman High School, about the time school lets out.

They will then be heading to the Macklanburg Playhouse supposedly protesting a performance at Stephens College of "The Laramie Project." it is a play about a gay man who was beaten and left to die. Westboro's leader is portrayed in the play.

Westboro has long proclaimed their hatred of gay people. They were in Columbia a few months ago protesting a city ordinance that recognizes gay and lesbian couples.

Columbia police have long encouraged residents to ignore the group.
