BELLE -- A mid-Missouri teen who almost died from alcohol poisoning is now in stable condition in a St. Louis hospital.

Maries County Sheriff's Deputies broke up the underage drinking party early Saturday morning in Belle.

Sheriff Chris Heitman says about 20 underage kids were drinking whiskey, vodka and beer; first in someone's home, before moving the party to a garage.

Another teen found the 14 year old passed out, and called for help.  That 14 year old had to be airlifted to St. Louis for treatment.

Sheriff Heitman wants to remind parents that they are responsible if they knowingly host underage drinking parties in their homes.

Criminal charges in this case could still be coming.

Parents need to be parents

It is not the Sheriff's job to be your kids parent! It is your job to be parents. Take the blame you deserve. I know what my kids are doing. Do you?

I'm sure while all this drinking and partying was going on your little angels were playing ping pong. Your kid/s are innocent. Sure they are, why don't you teach them to LEAVE a possibly dangerous situation if other people their age (underage) are drinking? BRAVO, you made you and your kids look stupid. Hurray for proper parenting.

I may not be able to make complete sentences but I
do have enough sense not to make commits on something
I know nothing about. I am smart enough to know that
you can't believe everything you read unlike you!

I don't know if you can't type, complete a sentence or read but no where in the article does it mention not calling/calling the parents. Where are you getting this information from. I highly doubt if a child was ill from drinking that law enforcement would cut the child loose with another child.

kids first

That wasn't in the article... about them letting the kids go on their own and not calling their parents. Is this hearsay or first hand information? What I still want to know is where there parents in this house. Simple question.

exactly

there are lots of questions about all of this....but the news report doesn't state the actual facts.... for god sake you shouldn't have to watch teenagers play ping pong.... come on parents or who ever you are... what did you do as a kid growing up? and you are right if the cop says he broke the party up with twenty kids drinking, why were we as parents not called.... thank god the 14 year old is ok.... that is the main concern.... but the news got a bad report on what actually happened...

why didn't the police notify the parents instead of
letting these children leave a party drunk where they
could be left to die

Were there adults at this "ping pong" party?

She loves her son

I happen to know the mother of this boy & she did not supply her son w/ alcohol or drugs & cares about her son deeply. The cops came only after 911 was called & what about the 16 yr old girl found passed out in a field & 1 shoe in the hwy the girl was the cousin of the ppl who's house the PARTY was at so why would these ppl allow that if they are so innocent? This mother would have never known her son was drinking if the home owners didn't let it come to this. My question is who bought the alcohol?

not so sure all the statements in this article are true...

Posted by concerned parent, bland - Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 12:41 p.m.

the story on here is not all true..... first of all there weren't twenty kids involved.... secondly, cops didn't bust the party up.... like they want you to believe.... and thirdly some of the kids were not drinking and saved the life of the kid that was....i as a parent knew where my kids were, and they were not drinking...they were at this garage playing ping pong because there is nothing for them to do in this area... thanks.... the news needs to get facts...

I agree with Wendy, Some parents do not care as long as the child in not in their way, they do not care what is going on. Parents stop buying your kids the booze and drugs for them!!!!!

No suprise!

Parties like these have been going on for the past year with these 13 and 14 year olds. The older guys are buying the alcohol for the kids and nobody does anything about it. Some parents have been letting their kids do whatever they want as long as they aren't in their way. Yes, some parents have no clue what's going on with their kids. (I had no clue what my child was doing until not that long ago.) The law needs to crack down on underage drinking and work on breaking up these parties before this happens. Parents, such as myself, need to wake up and realize what their kids are doing before it's too late.

OK, one question here

As being born and raised in this town, I only have one question. Where in the hell were the parents.
