ELDON -- An Eldon man plead guilty Friday for his role in a dog-fighting ring.

Jack Ruppel admitted to killing dogs that wouldn't fight and dropping ones that didn't meet expectations down a sepctic tank.

He admitted in federal court that he was part of a conspiracy to buy, sell and train bull terriers to fight.

Ruppel told the court he attended, or participated, in 10 dog fights between July of 2008 and April of this year. One of those fights took place at his Eldon home.

He faces up to 10 years behind bars along with a $500,000 fine.

What I Think is...

that the neighbor who made the septic tank comment looked like she woulda said anything to get a 15 second clip on the news and that if that gal really saw what she claimed she woulda called the cops long before.

and that...
when hormel or tyson brutalize millions of animals every day and you pay them to put their animal property (no different from a dog!) that you've bought for the dinner table you sit at - you're turning a blind eye to the REAL animal suffering that you're participating in.

if you really want to affect a HUGE amount of animals suffering and senseless death then stop eating meat. It's not necessary. You do it because you find it enjoyable. Just like some find hunting, or the competitive nature of racing or fighting enjoyable.

Why is it ok for you to participate in the suffering and death of probably millions of animals in your life and yet these guys, up close and personally participating in their animals' lives and deaths so much more objectionable? they try to make these folks out like villians but many of them spend hours and hours every day caring for them and more than one cried like a little girl when losing a longtime faithful buddy. even one they've fought. I know it's hard to imagine after being fed so much AR propaganda but it's true.

What is really the difference between a pig and a goat and chicken and a dog?

Now don't get me wrong, I don't eat meat, and don't want to. BUT I don't want to MAKE anyone else not able to do so.

I think it's objectionable so I don't participate. That should be a thinking person's answer...not 'I don't like it so I'm gonna interfere in other citizen's lives and make them abide by my morality'.

In any event the 3-400 dogs they've described "saving" in this matter are an incredibly minuscule minority compared to the millions fed at fast food joints this week. If you really want to help animals, make a personal choice.

But I guess that would take self-reflection. it's so much easier to just throw a stone at someone else.

you eat dead dogs that have been dropped in a septic tank?

ridiculous

I think it's ridiculous that people are losing their lives and liberty for something that is perfectly legal when done for your dinner table.

10 years for letting some dogs that want to fight. what a waste of taxpayer money.
