COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- A 1990 Livingston County murder case is again under scrutiny, even though a man has been convicted twice in the death of farm wife Cathy Robertson.
A five-month Associated Press examination found that some evidence pointing to suspects other than Mark Woodworth was discounted or not fully explored by investigators. Motives assigned to Woodworth had little support. And the county prosecutor dropped out of the case because of doubts about Woodworth's guilt.
Woodworth was convicted in 1995 but won a new trial on appeal. A second jury found him guilty four years later. He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms plus 15 years.
Two jurors came forward after the verdict to tell the judge they were wrong and given in to pressure. He rejected their plea for reconsideration and issued a gag order preventing them from speaking with Woodworth's defense lawyers.
