COLUMBIA -- Columbia’s largest employer is the University of Missouri.

University President Gary Forsee says Missouri’s economy is not as slow as in some parts of the rest of the nation.

Forsee has no plans for a hiring freeze on any of his four campuses or any of his health care facilities.

“We see nothing, in terms of the University of Missouri Health Care that would indicate that type of issue confronting us," Forsee said. "Having said that, we all know that, in this economy, we have to pay attention to all of the dimensions of the university and pay attention to the demand on our health care system and watch that accordingly.”

MU Chancellor Brady Deaton said, “We are concerned about the national economy and the impact it may have on the state of Missouri. We’re monitoring that carefully. We’re optimistic.”

Deaton says his university recently raised $1 billion with a fundraiser called “For All We Call Mizzou.”

Deaton says that billion-dollar accomplishment by donors guarantees a bright future for Mizzou.
