(AP) -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A southwest Missouri man wielding an unloaded AK-47 marches in front of the federal courthouse in Kansas City in protest of the president's proposal to ban military-style assault rifles.

KMBC-TV (http://bit.ly/WsY0ga) reports Stan Nyhart of Hickory County notified police in advance of his protest Friday morning and they checked his weapon to make sure it wasn't loaded.

Officers kept a watchful eye on him as he paced back and forth in front of the building for about half an hour.

Nyhart says President Barack Obama's views of things are too urban, and that most of the people who have assault rifles live in rural parts of the country.

He called efforts to curb the sale of military-style guns an attack on his liberties.
