JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) -- A Missouri lawmaker wants to consider whether teachers and other school personnel should be encouraged to bring concealed weapons to school to defend against attacks like the one that took place in Connecticut.
Republican House member Stanley Cox of Sedalia said Monday that people might think twice about committing such acts of violence if they knew that principals, teachers or security officers might be armed.
Missouri law currently prohibits concealed guns at schools without the consent of the local school board or a school official.
Governor Jay Nixon said Monday the attack that killed 26 people at a Connecticut elementary school should spur a conversation about mental health services for adults and the availability of certain types of lethal weapons.
