JEFFERSON CITY -- A Jefferson City man is in serious condition after he was hit by a police car.

Norman Carlock, 41, was life flighted to University Hospital in critical condition last night after being hit by a Jefferson City police cruiser.

It happened on eastbound Highway 50 near the Intersection of Highway 179.

Jefferson City Police said the officer was eastbound responding to a call for a stranded motorist when he spotted the car stalled on the shoulder of the westbound lanes.

Police said the officer was going to turn around to check on the stalled car when he struck the man, who was said to be walking in the passing lane of traffic.

The highway patrol has been called in to reconstruct the accident and a standard internal investigation is also being conducted.

The name of the officer has not been released and we don't know if he is still on active duty.
