COLE COUNTY -- Russellville voters will decide Tuesday to approve a $2 million school bond issue.
It's the only issue on the Cole County Nov. 3 ballot. The measure, called Prop Kids, would allow the district to tap into up to $2 million in federal stimulus funds for upgrades throughout the Russellville school district.
The bond issue does not raise taxes, and the property tax in the county would remain the same. If approved by voters, the school would then file a request for the money through the state.
"This is an important bond issue for our students and our school,” said Jerry Hobbs, superintendent. “This is one thing that will help not only our students today but students in the future for many years to come.”
If approved by voters, the district plans on making upgrades in at least two school buildings. Some proposed upgrades include new exterior and interior doors that would be more accessible to people with disabilities. The district would also like to install more energy efficient lights and update the aging electrical system to accommodate for newer technologies.
The district would also like to add a running track to the land behind the high school.
There are more than 700 students currently enrolled in the district.
