HOLTS SUMMIT, MO. -- Law enforcement is investigating two cases of dogs being beaten to death in Callaway County.

A week ago, Mojo, an American Bulldog, was beaten to death while its owners were away from their Holts Summit house for a few hours.

Another dog was killed just two days before Mojo.

The Jones family pet, a 10-month-old pit bull named Shorty, was beaten to death and left hanging by a chain in the front yard.

The family had also only been away for a few hours.

Police are trying to discover if the two cases are connected.

"Well, it’s extremely strange.  In 17 years I've never seen a case like this” Holts Summit Police Kyle McIntyre said. “Right now, we're just trying to develop any leads we can and find out who did this."

The Holts Summit officer who responded to the Jones' house said it looks like Shorty was hit with a baseball bat.

A similar large weapon was used to beat Mojo.

Anyone with information is asked to call either the Holts Summit Police Department or the Callaway County Sheriff's Department.

This is becoming a major problem in Missouri. With the dog fighting ring in Eldon, and now the beatings in HS. I hope that the person/persons involve are caught and delt with. As far as critizing the law enforcement I feel that they are doing every thing possible to stop this. The majority of them are animal lovers also. With other crime rates increasing due to the economy the cops are being run raged. My wife and I donate monthly to the ASPCA to help animals of abuse or neglect. Check out there web site maybe if enough people take an interest our community can get animal cops to serve and protect our loved pets. Let the law enforcement officers handle the heavy work loads they already have. God bless the families of these pets, and god bless the soul of anyone caught tring to hurt one of my pets!

Dog Killer(s)

Knowing that someone has brutally tortured and killed two dogs and is still out there, possibly planning another attack, is very unsettling. I hope everyone in the area will do all they can to find out who is responsible and bring them to justice. How terrible for the dogs, for the owners, and how unthinkably inhumane is the person who committed these gutless acts of cruelty. It must be stopped.

This is sad..

Ontop of these dogs being beaten, I believe that there was a woman who came home to her two cats lying dead on her sidewalk just a week or so ago. One of which was a mother of 5 kittens which they are now nursing.
Law enforcement needs to stop this..now..before anyone else's animals are harmed.
Bet they'd be ontop of it if one of their own pets were harmed.

Someone is sick...

What kind of a sicko can beat a dog and then leave it hanging? That is so terrible. I hope they find who has done this, and soon. I wouldn't leave my pet unattended if I lived in this area....Once again, an eye for an eye should be the punishment here.....

I can not believe that people could do this to a dog like that. I hope the people that did this get locked up for life and could have this happen to them. I think they should go straight to hell and my heart truely goes out to the family. may god be with you in your loss and ur pets are like your children. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so sorry this happened.

Sad

These stories are sad, and also scary. Some crazy person torturing family pets is running loose. This is so sickening that anyone could do such a thing to an innocent animal. My daughter's Boston Terrier came up missing just days before these dogs were found. She too left for just a little while, and because she lives in the rural parts of Holts Summit, you would think a person could safely leave their pets outdoors. This dog had been a part of her family for 6 years. She, her husband, and children miss him terribly, and with all these news stories coming out, we pray that he didn't meet the same fate. This person needs caught and soon. How long will it be before it is a child instead of a dog. The person obviously has no heart, and no conscience. I am so sorry for these families for losing their beloved pets in this manner. There is no punishment harsh enough for these actions. I hope this maniac, or maniacs are caught soon!

why?????????

It hurts my soul to hear that someone is hurting these poor dogs to the point of killing them. How sad to think that there are persons that mean and hateful--if they are doing this to dogs now, will they soon beat other people to death? I hope that these perpetrators are found and brought to justice.....the dogs deserve some kind of justice for their senseless deaths. I feel such sorrow for the dog owners....I love my dog and would be so devastated if someone hurt her. It is just too sad to believe.
