HIGGINSVILLE -- A small plane crashed into a Higginsville lake Monday morning. But neither person inside were hurt.
The plane apparently lost power after taking off from the Higginsville airport, about 85 miles west of Columbia, and the pilot made a quick decision to land on the lake.
"I looked out the window and he was flying, oh, probably about five feet off the water and he smacked the water, said witness Lester Fisher. “So, I came down here, me and the boys came down here and the plane was just getting ready to go under and i went ahead and went out to them and just as I got to the plane, the guy kicked the back window out and his wife came out first. Then he came out and I made sure there wasn't nobody else in the plane."
Officials are investigating what caused the plane to go down.
