JEFFERSON CITY -- It might not be Christmas but that didn't stop volunteers from making greeting cards to send to the troops.

Dozens of volunteers cut, stamped and glued the professional looking cards, which were kept blank inside.

The greeting cards have been a hit with soldiers serving overseas, who fill them out and send them home to loved ones.

"It warms my heart," said Gerry Kliethermes, who helped make the cards. "To know that somebody's going to be writing back to their families, writing back to their relatives, writing back to their kids. And they're going to be using the cards that I helped make."

The even was organized by a group called "From Our Hearts," which packages and sends the cards to the troops. The non-profit was founded by Martie Shea, whose son's served in Iraq seven times.
The volunteers were hoping to make over 1300 of the homemade cards Saturday.

They'll be shipped to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan later this year.
