COLUMBIA -- A Columbia-based agency that helps people with developmental disabilities has received a rare recognition.
The national accreditation organization Exemplary Practice cited Boone County Family Resources for exemplary practice in developing and coordinating services for people. The distinction makes them a nationwide model for other similar agencies across the country.
Boone County Family Resources staff members provide a variety of services including advocacy, support services and linkage to other services.
Executive Director Les Wagner said, “We help people of all ages from newborn babies to infants and toddlers with special needs through school age folks that could have a mental disability or physical disability. The key is that it happens while they are growing up and affects their development.”
Boone County residents established Boone County Family Resources with the passage of a property tax in 1976.
A nine-member board of directors appointed by the Boone County Commission administers agency activities.
