MARIES COUNTY -- Two Maries County men have been arrested-one facing serious felony charges after deputies found a loaded gun in their car, the other may have been fired a gun near small children.

Deputies arrested 26-year-old Zachariah Macey of Belle and 20-year-old Shawn Surdam of St. James after a traffic stop Wednesday.

Deputies were looking for the duo after receiving a call that they stole the car from a home on Maries County Rd. 414. Deputies were told there was a fight at the home and a firearm was discharged near young children.

A search of that home revealed drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Macey, a convicted felon; is charged with three felonies including tampering with a motor vehicle and child endangerment. He is being held in the Maries County jail on a $13,000 bond. Authorities say additional charges may be pending.

Deputies also say the two men are suspects in firearm thefts in Maries, Gasconade, and Phelps Counties.
