VERSAILLES -- UPDATE: Wed., April 22, 5:22 p.m.:

More information in the case of a Versailles teacher accused of having sex with students.

25-year-old Mark Garber was charged Tuesday with second-degree statutory sodomy.

Court documents obtained by KRCG report that two female students from the Versailles school district, one age 16, the other age 17, invited Garber to one of their homes in early March, where the first sexual encounter took place.

Police say Garber later had additional contact with the 17-year-old girl.

The girl tells authorities both she and Garber knew their relationship was "not appropriate" and they agreed to not tell anyone.

Garber was employed as a long-term substitute teacher at the Versailles school district, meaning he was in the process of completing his coursework to become a certified teacher.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A Versailles teacher has turned himself in to police on charges that he had sexual contact with a student.

The Morgan County prosecutor yesterday charged 25-year-old Mark Garber with second-degree statutory sodomy-a Class C felony.

Garber is a middle school physical education teacher and an assistant coach for both the football and wrestling programs at the Versailles School District.

The school district sent a letter home to parents Tuesday which said district officials became aware of the situation March 19.

Garber was placed on administrative leave and a district and criminal investigation began.

KRCG’s phone call to Garber's attorney was not returned.

A judge set Garber's bond at $25,000.

Unfortunate situation

Unfortunantely dress code and sexual conduct of a lot of teenagers these days, intices this type activity. I am not covering up for the teachers actions, but the years difference in these ages is not great, so sexual thoughts and desires should not be a shock. I realize the teacher should have used better judgement, but I also think proper upbringing on the girls behalf is also an issue. So who is really to blame, the lack of proper parenting, or the lack of good judgement? We as parents have an obligation to our children to rear them in a mannor to not invite, or conduct, in such activity as well as an adult has the obligation to be aware of and stay away from such activity. It seems the parents in both cases are as much to blame for this situation as the person being prosecuted.

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. This year they have documented over 175 of these types of incidents. In 2008 they found 478 of these kinds of cases.

Not sure if he did it or not BUT those girls are just as responsible. If he is guilty then he really needs punished. Either way both girls need disiplined by their parents and taught some values. I agree he is in a position of power and that it is wrong but 24 years olds and 17 year olds do this all the time. Even if the man is innocent his career and reputation are ruint.

How they all get what help they need.
