COLUMBIA -- The City of Columbia is getting a new police chief Monday.

City Council will swear in Kenneth Burton, the former police chief in Haltom City, Texas, at Monday night's meeting.

The new chief told KRCG last month his immediate plans are to start combating crime and gang activity in Columbia.

Burton takes over for Interim Chief Tom Dresner who filled in when long-time Chief Randy Boehm retired.

Burton has 28 years of law enforcement, including time in Dallas and Arlington, Texas.

Monday night's ceremony starts at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.  A reception will follow.
