WASHINGTON -- Democrats and republicans in Washington are furious with insurance giant AIG and the fact that the company used taxpayer dollars to pay millions in bonuses.
Missouri republican Sen. Kit bond expressed his outrage yesterday about AIG's use of federal bailout money for employee bonuses.
"I too am outraged,” said Bond. “It's unacceptable to pay bonuses after the American taxpayer was forced to bail out an institution without reforming it. Without reforming it. Without demanding any changes."
Bond also says he is disappointed that the treasury department didn't put conditions on the federal funds that were given to AIG.
Bond says Secretary Timothy Geithner could have and should have refused to give any additional money unless he was assured it would be used only to address the company's financial crisis.
