Columbia man accused of taking car while drunk

BOONE COUNTY -- A Columbia man is in jail after deputies say he took a car from the parking lot of the Boone County Sheriff's Department and crashed it while he was intoxicated.

Deputies say 45-year-old James Jones didn't go far when he took the car just after 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

A Boone County Sheriff's deputy noticed that the vehicle hit gas pumps located at the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Jones wasn't at the scene, but deputies found him walking in an nearby area.

Deputies then discovered Jones had a revoked drivers license and that he was drunk.

Jones was arrested for first-degree tampering, leaving he scene of an accident, driving while revoked and driving while intoxicated. Combined, his bonds are $10,000.
