CALLAWAY COUNTY --

UPDATE: The FBI has confirmed fingerprints taken from the female body found Sunday afternoon near Mokane are not those of Jasmine Haslag.

Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane says the Missouri Highway Patrol could not find a match to the prints in state databases; and FBI officials did not get a hit on the prints when they searched the National Missing Person database.

Callaway County officials say an anthropologist will now investigate the remains to learn more about the victim, trying to determine an approximate time and date of death.

Authorities say the body found Sunday afternoon near Mokane is not Jasmine Haslag. KRCG's Mallory McGowin has the latest information from Mokane where state and county officials now say the fingerprints collected during Monday morning's autopsy do not match those of the missing Russelville woman.

"Indications back from the Highway Patrol in reference to the prints that were taken to them...AFIS is telling us right now that it's not a match on Jasmine Haslag," says Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane. "So, right now indications are it's not her."

The female body was found just before four o'clock Sunday afternoon in Callaway County, about a mile down County Road 479 just off Highway 94. The river access road has been closed since a Callaway County reserve deputy was out looking for mushrooms and stumbled upon the body in a shallow grave.

The body was discovered about 30 or 40 yards up the Missouri River bank. At this time authorities do not believe the body was dumped in the river, but rather buried at this location.

Officials taped off the area and removed the body Sunday night. More authorities came to search the area for evidence Monday. Officials from both Callaway and Osage Counties, as well as the Missouri Department of Conservation are now involved. Crane says the search will likely continue into Monday night.

Crane says authorities have every reason to believe foul play was involved in this incident and that the body, identified as a female between the ages of 25 and 40, had been in the shallow grave for a while.

"The most imporant thing right now, at this time, is to identify who this person is," Crane says.

Jasmine Haslag was initially considered because she is from this area and her car was found about five miles from this burial site nearly a week after her June 18th, 2007 disappearance.

I spoke to Haslag's mother, Peggy Florence, by phone several times Monday. In response to the latest details, she says she is still deperately looking for her daughter and seeking closure for herself and Haslag's children.

Crane says the fingerprints collected will now be sent to the FBI and cross checked with the National Missing Person's database. Authorities ask if you have any information about a local missing woman between the ages of 25 and 40, to call the Callaway County Sheriff's Department at (573) 642-7291.

One other point about Mokane

Posted by Holly Bickmeyer, Hermann, MO - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 6:03 p.m.

One other thing, Lifelong Resident- I have heard from MANY "locals" that they do indeed believe that a person in that area has some involvement with the disappearance of this woman.

I didn't point out that I was from mokane to mar your precious town's precious reputation. I brought it up so that those kids would understand that my comments aren't coming from someone disconnected from all of this. I'm sorry you take my comments so personally- maybe because you know I'm right??

TO JASMINES KIDS- You guys keep your heads up. The BASTARD that did this to your mom will be brought to justice. Don't let ANYONE try to tell you that you don't have the right to deal with this however you need to. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys every single day.

First of all, I don't know who you are and frankly, I don't care. I think it's cowardly of you to say what you did about what happened to my mother without having the backbone to at least say who you are.

I was THREE FEET away from my mother when she was shot and killed. It was NOT a ricochet. Were you standing there? Do you KNOW what happened that night?? Because I do. And i'm sorry if the fact that i haven't "moved on" from watching my mother's MURDER upsets you or makes you think you have ANY right to tell me to move on.

I did not in ANY way say that Mokane is a horrible place where people die, I only said what happened to me to give the children of Jasmine Haslag some hope that no matter how horrible it seems, and despite the fact that they will have to deal with people their entire lives telling them to "get over it, it was a long time ago", they WILL be able to move on and have good lives, as I have done.

SHAME ON YOU for thinking you have ANY right to tell me or anyone else how to deal with their greif. Until you have gone through what I have gone through, or what Jasmine's children have gone through, or anyone else who goes through a horrible, horrible ordeal, how dare you judge how we handle our grief??

This is the EXACT attitude of why I no longer live in Mokane, and never will again. I'm PROUD of the fact that you don't consider me a "local" , lifelong resident. My home is not and has not been in Mokane for years, and I don't miss it. 98% of that town showed their true colors when my mother was killed.

And one more thing, why shouldn't you be reminded of what happened?? Because it's an inconveniant smudge on Mokane's otherwise spotless record?? Give me a break. Would you tell Jasmine's children the same thing 10 years from now, when they are still greiving their mother?

You are a coward, and heartless, and i'm very glad that I'm no longer a member of your town. You and those like you are welcome to it.

to J Haslag's entire family

I'm so sorry for the family of Jasmine; I'm sure that she wouldn't have left if something hadn't happened whatever that might have been. I never met her but you are all hurting so badly. And alot of the comments I've read are extremely horrible. All three children as well as other relatives deserve respect;
A much loved relative is missing; everyone has to go on with their lives , but you have to do it in your own way. And hopefully things WILL turn out in a good way and Jasmine will return to her family alive and well, and all questions will be answered. In the meantime PLEASE have respect for this family.....

This is to you- Life long residant of mokane

I feel that was really harsh of you to tell that lady she needs to get over her mothers murder. she was a littler girl when this happened. her mom wasnt there for her first day of high school, or prom, and her wedding or the birth of her children if she has any. thats a big deal. those are all times in our lives that we as women want our "mommies" we may age but we never lose that bond with a mother. i know if i were in her shoes id still be greeving for this terrible loss. As for it having nothing to do with this story, maybe not but she was just reaching out to jaz's children to let them know they are not alone. have a heart.

I have this feeling.......

I am a distant cousin of Jasmines, so my heart goes out to Peggy and Jasmines sister and children. I have been following all of the articles since her disappearance and I cannot help it - I feel this is her. I feel that they may have made a mistake, or for some reason telling us this isnt her for some reason. This is just too coincidental. They need to check DNA and dental records if they havent already. It could be possible that the finger print was messed up. I hope I am wrong. I hope that Jasmine just took off to change her life or something, however I hope that didnt happen either for the what her children must be going thru. I feel for you all and I hope this mystery will be solved soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

mokane resident

Ms. Holly - Let's move on. What happened to your mom was a horrific "anger" filled 'accident'. It isn't neccessary to remind everyone that it happened here in Mokane. This has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Tired of lowlifes showing up and giving our town a bad reputation, leaving us to clean up the mess and take the blame. Lifetime locals feel this occurance 'probably' (not saying ANYTHING for certain) does not have anything to do with a Mokane resident. Anyone with access to a vehical/boat could have easily placed a body in that location. Very brave with the amount of traffic that moves through that area. My opinion, locals would know that. Hopefully the matter will be resolved soon to put all at peace of mind. Thougths go out to the family of the missing girl.

I feel for you kids

Posted by Holly Bickmeyer, Hermann - Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 1:03 p.m.

To the children of Jasmine Haslag- I grew up in Mokane, and my mother was shot and killed there when I was 14. As horrible as that was, I cannot imagine having to go through what you and your siblings are going through, not knowing what happened or where your mom is. I think about you guys EVERY SINGLE DAY, and pray that you will have the strength to pull through this and live your lives. It can be done, I am proof. I truly truly hope that your mom comes back to you, but if she doesn't, I hope that you find out what happened so you don't have to wonder. And you are right, that whoever did anything to your mom is lower than the lowest scum, and a coward for not coming forward to at least save you kids any more suffering. My heart goes out to you all. God bless you and your family.

Scary

Posted by Terri H, Jefferson City, MO - Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 7:50 a.m.

I was sure that it would be Jasmine Haslag and was shocked to learn that the fingerprints didn't match. Which brings up another question...who is it? This is actually scarier because now there may be a serial killer or someone walking amongst us who killed this woman. Very scary...
