ST. LOUIS, MO (AP) -- A St. Louis County man is sentenced to four years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a tow truck driver.
Christopher Cottrell of Fenton pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. Cottrell is 40. The accident last April killed 32-year-old Aaron Helfrich of Festus. The victim was working on the shoulder of Interstate 270 when he was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Cottrell.
Hundreds of tow trucks and wreckers took part in the procession at Helfrich's funeral.
