There's a new number you can call to get help finding services in your community.
The United Way and the Missouri Foundation for Health kicked-off their 2-1-1 telephone number at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Columbia Tuesday morning.
The 2-1-1 system is now available for 90 percent of Missourians serviced by either AT&T, CenturyTel or Charter telephone companies.
The entire state is scheduled to be up and running by next spring.
The 2-1-1 call center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Operators can tell you where to find everything from food banks to job training to protective services.
David Franta of the Columbia Area United Way said, "2-1-1 is not just a way to get help. It's a way to give help. If you want to be a volunteer in a community, this is also the one number to call if you want to volunteer your services at any time."
2-1-1 only works on land lines.
If you live in an area where the system is not running yet or if you have a cell phone, you can get the same services by calling toll free at 1-800-427-4626.
