With a dog blog (and a cat in the household also), I’m obviously a pet lover… like many of you out there.
After the EF-5 tornado hit Joplin on Sunday I put myself in the shoes of the people there. I can’t imagine having to go through what they’re dealing with right now.
In the past, whenever I ran for shelter I grabbed my cat before anything else. Now that we have Milo, he’s in on that action plan also. On Thursday, that plan got put into place when a Tornado Warning was issued for Boone County. The pets went in their carriers and into the pantry.
Luckily, nothing happened here. That’s not the case in Joplin. Dozens of animals are missing or waiting to be reunited with their families, if they’re even alive.
The wonderful people at the Joplin Humane Society are doing a fantastic job with the resources available to them, but they still need help.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you, our great KRCG viewers in Mid-Missouri to come through for the animals in Joplin, and the tireless workers who are searching and caring for them.
I’ve been in contact with an official at the Joplin Humane Society. Their main need right now is money. Besides that, there are a few supplies they could use, and it’s not items you might expect:
- -Trash bags
- -Bleach
- -Hand sanitizer
- -Bath towels
- -Toilet paper
- -Paper towels
- -Medical supplies (gauze, bandages)
Many of these items are something we all have in our homes.
So if you can spare some of them and/or some cash, please come by the station between now and Friday, June 3 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to drop off your donations. You also can mail checks to:
KRCG-13
Attn: Dori Olmos
10188 Old US Hwy 54
New Bloomfield, MO 65063
*Make checks payable to Joplin Humane Society
I personally will be in charge of the items and will make sure they get taken to a designated drop off point in mid-Missouri.
If you come on Friday, May 27, Milo will be at the station so you can stop by, do a good deed, and meet the dog!
If you’re like me you treat your pets like kids, so let’s try to help the Joplin Humane Society as much as we can.
Thank you, Mid-Missouri!
Stay tuned for more!
