Civil War soldiers set up camp and took over Binder Park this weekend. The Civil War reenactment included about 400 members from the Missouri Civil War Reenactors' Association.
Gary Dunakey, federal artillery officer impressionist, said he started taking an interest in the 8th grade.
"I had a great teacher. He really stimulated. You know, I have always been interested in this time era. There are a lot of thing that shaped us into what we are today. So, I started going to some reenactments and thought that might be something I'd like to do. I've been doing it now for 15 years," he said
He says the event is a great learning experience for kids, since being here instantly transports one back to 1862. But all ages are sure to enjoy the free music, dance and living history happening around them.
The unit members may have survived the heat but not all of them survived the battlefield reenactment.

The Missouri Civil War Reenactors' Association effort event only comes to Jefferson City about every three years but there are upcoming battles scheduled all around Missouri on its website.
