JEFFERSON CITY -- A Columbia man is wanted and one of two brothers has been arrested following the New Year's Day shooting at a Phillips 66 in Jefferson City.

Officials have identified Columbia resident Daleron Monroe, 26, as the prime suspect in this shooting. He is wanted for first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Byron and Brandon Betts, both 29-year-old Jefferson City residents, were at the gas station when Monroe shot at them.

Officers responded at about 5 a.m. for the shooting at 807 Stadium Blvd., where they learned that Brandon was at Capital Region Medical Center for a gunshot wound on his face. He was released from the hospital within 24 hours, but was later arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Police had discovered a large amount of cash and a baggy of marijuana in his clothes.

Byron was arrested that day by Jefferson City detectives, but, because the charges weren't filed quickly enough, he was released. He is now being sought on warrants for armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Jefferson City Captain Doug Shoemaker said the altercation between Monroe and the Betts brothers started earlier in the night and only turned violent at the gas station. Officials have previously identified the location of the initial disagreement as Club Motivation.

Shoemaker added that he has received information indicating the brothers and Monroe were not on friendly terms and that there had been other incidents in the past.
