Man killed in Maries County brush fire

MARIES COUNTY -- A brush fire in Maries County killed a Belleville, Illinois man Monday,

The Maries County Sheriff's office, Vichy Fire Department and Belle Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Route Z.

When they got to the scene they found the body of 74-year-old Roger Bechtoldt of Belleville, Illinois.

Authorities said Bechtold was overcome by flames while he was burning brush.

Two structures were also destroyed during the fire.
