PULASKI COUNTY -- An 8-year-old was killed in a car crash Saturday afternoon.

It happened on Interstate 44 at mile marker 152 in Pulaski County at about 3:45 p.m.

Highway Patrol Troopers said a mini-van driven by 15-year-old Logan Lamb ran off the right side of the road. Troopers said that when she over-corrected, she then drove off the left side into the median.

The van flipped several times and eventually came to rest on its wheels.

The van's driver and her four passengers -- 12-year-old Brice Lamb, 34-year-old Tami Smith, 2-year-old Addison Wittock and 28-year-old Justin Wittock -- were all taken to Mercy Hospital in Lebanon with moderate injuries.

The 8-year-old, Hannah Lamb, was thrown from the van and pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner. The patrol's report inducates Hannah was wearing a seatbelt.

Missouri Law requires children ages 8 and older to wear a seatbelt. But child safety experts say for some children that may not be enough to prevent injury. The American Academy of Pediatrics says if a child is not at least 80 pounds or 4' 9" tall, they still need a booster seat, no matter their age.

When older children do buckle up, the group says they should sit in the back seat where it is safest, and the seatbelt must fit well. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the lap belt must be snug across the upper thighs, not the stomach, and the shoulder belt should cross the shoulder, not the neck or face.
