A Cole County man accused of child abuse won't go on trial.

Court officials said they expect Chad Elliot to accept a plea agreement, but no details have been released.

Elliot is charged with two counts of child abuse.

Police said in June of 2012 that they found Elliot's girlfriend's son with a golf ball-sized knot on his forehead, a cut under his chin, red marks on his face and bruising on his arms and back.

A witness said the couple punished the 2-year-old for not listening.

This week, a judge set Elliot's sentencing for April 10th. The child's mother, Lexi Miller, is also charged with child abuse. She's set to be in court at the end of this month.
