Former officer accused of assault gets trial date

Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson is acting as a special prosecutor in the Sanders case.

A former Columbia police officer facing third degree assault charges appeared before a judge Thursday afternoon.

A judge set the trial date for Rob Sanders as September 26.

Sanders was charged with assault after the release of a video of an incident in a holding cell that shows Sanders shoved inmate Kenneth Baker into a concrete wall.

Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson is acting as a special prosecutor in the Sanders case.
