Sales tax on violent video games? One Camdenton lawmaker says yes / File

A Camdenton lawmaker wants a sales tax on violent video games.

Representative Diane Franklin said that the one percent tax would go toward mental health programs and law enforcement measures to help curb mass shootings.Video games rated teen, mature and adult by the entertainment software rating board would be taxed.

Her proposal is a response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Lawmakers in Oklahoma and New Mexico have tried and failed to pass similar legislation in recent years.
