The 26-year-old Columbia resident named as the prime suspect in the New Year's Day shooting in Jefferson City has turned himself in to authorities.

Daleron Monroe walked into the Boone County Sheriff's Office at about 1:30 p.m. Officials took him into custody for first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Witnesses said Monroe shot at two brothers, Brandon and Byron Betts, at the Phillips 66 on Stadium Boulevard early New Year's Day. Brandon was shot in the face and treated at Capital Region Medical Center before being arrested for marijuana possession with intent to distribute.

Byron is wanted on warrants for armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.
